One Person's Story

As the doors slowly closed behind us, I heard the sound of one door gently brushing the other and I found myself wondering "what am I doing here, at a two-day workshop and on a week-end no less?" As the voice of reason answered back it reminded me that the boss had sent us to improve the quality of our work, and clearly I was in no position to argue. The last words I remember hearing as the "old me" was Barbra telling us to leave our egos and everything that we thought we knew about life at the door, because we wouldn't need them where we were going, of course my mind again couldn't help but wonder where were we going and what would the journey be like? It started out like any other workshop , however as Barbra began to weave her magic, everything I ever thought I knew about me, my life , the world and how it all fit together started to melt away, and in its place, as if watching a cathedral being built block by block ,came a level of awareness that I never knew existed . When Barbra spoke there was a knowing, that seemed to zoom light years beyond anything we had ever heard before, we were going to awareness, and the journey would be like a grand buffet! There were times we laughed,and there were times we cried , sometimes we were in absolute amazement , and at other times we would laugh with the delight of a child as we danced and drew pictures, and yet there would be times when Barbra would get real serious and I felt as if she was speaking just to me, at those moments I couldn't help but wonder when the light above her head would start to glow like in "touched by an angel". It all seemed to go by so quickly as if we were all in some altered state, we felt something that I believe we had never known before, was it the incredible sense of wholeness or clarity or maybe it was the unconditional love we felt for ourselves,for the first timein our lives, however, when it was all over and it was time to leave it seemed as though no one wanted to go, as if per chance we had fallen under Barbra's magic spell. Looking back now as I stand, feet firmly on the ground and head gazing at a world that I finally understand, I realize that my boss knew exactly what she was doing that day she sent us into that room, it might have been about her business- but the gift we received was the opening of a new and magical door to what we can be when we are living our life - eyes wide open!
